More than 80% of ocean plastic pollution comes from rivers and streams, making river cleanup a critical part of protecting our oceans. Our sponsorship funds one of Sungai Watch's river barriers in East Java for an entire year, supporting daily cleanups, creating local jobs, and promoting waste management education in surrounding communities.

Sungai Watch is an environmental organization dedicated to protecting Indonesia's rivers from plastic pollution. Their team designs and installs simple but effective trash barriers that capture floating waste before it reaches the ocean.
Since launching in 2020, Sungai Watch has installed more than 350 river barriers across Bali and East Java and removed over 10 million pounds of plastic waste from rivers before it could reach the ocean.
Every barrier is cleaned daily by local teams, and the collected waste is carefully sorted and responsibly managed whenever possible. They also track the types and sources of plastic collected, helping identify pollution hotspots and inform long-term solutions.
It's a practical, community-driven approach that not only removes plastic from rivers but also helps prevent future pollution.

Java is the most populated island in the world, and the greater Jakarta metropolitan area is home to around 42 million people. Rapid urban growth and limited waste management infrastructure have left many rivers overwhelmed with plastic pollution, making cleanup and prevention efforts especially important.

Each year, hundreds of children in Nepal experience spinal cord injuries due to falls, landslides, and accidents. Most homes aren’t built with accessibility in mind. As a result, many of these children are forced to drop out of school and remain at home, isolated from their communities and opportunities. Over time, this leads to a loss of independence and, too often, a cycle of poverty. That’s why Spinal Cord Injury Network Nepal (SCINN) is building something truly groundbreaking. Nepal’s first fully accessible, disability-led Independent Living Practice Village in Kathmandu. This Village is designed to be more than just a place to stay. It is a place where students can rebuild their lives.
